Family cooking

I grew up in an Italian household. Food and cooking for your family and friends is a way to show love! My mom taught me to cook from scratch using only the finest ingredients! Many of my fondest memories took place in the kitchen cooking alongside my mom. Recipes passed down from generation to generation. A heritage I am proud of. I started cooking with my oldest son Mikie when he was 3. He would pull the chair up to the mixer and want to bake! lol! Needless to say, I loved every second!!! The tradition continued with Justin! The fun we had! Justin and I still bake together and talk about recipes! They both know how to make pasta from scratch using my moms ages old secret recipe. (proud mom right here!) When they were both older I gave them each a cookbook I made for them. It consisted of my moms heirloom recipes, their favorites of mine, and plenty of room to add their children's favorites! I made sure to handwrite the recipes. I have some that my mom had written and I treasure them. Cooking with your littles is such a great way to bond! The look of pride on their faces when they see what they actually accomplished is priceless! Especially when they taste the fruits of their labor! Enjoy!

Instructions Checklist
  • Preheat oven to 350°F with racks in the upper and lower third positions. In a small bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda; set aside. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter and both sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add salt, vanilla, and eggs; mix to combine. Reduce speed to low and gradually add flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Mix in chocolate chips.

  • Using a tablespoon measure, drop heaping portions of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.

  • Bake until cookies are golden around the edges, but still soft in the center, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from oven, and let cool on baking sheet 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer cookies to a wire rack and let cool completely. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week.

They also freeze well! Enjoy!
